The symposium “From Industry to Medicine – How Physics Forms Tomorrow”, organized by National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care and Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics of University of Łódź, took place on April 10, 2025.
The symposium was attended by, among others, Regional Consultant in Medical Physics for the province of Łódź, as well as representatives of Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine in Łódź, Medical University of Łódź, Łódź University of Technology, Department of Medical Physics at Provincial Multispecialist Centre of Oncology and Traumatology in Łódź, Stefan Batory Academy of Applied Sciences in Skierniewice, State Sanitary Inspectorate from Łódź, Poznań, Białystok, and Gorzów Wielkopolski and represenatatives of National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care. The audience also included scientists, university lecturers, students at the University of Łódź, teachers and students at senior secondary school, and others interested in the topics discussed.

The symposium was opened by Tomasz Gwizdałła – Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics at the University of Łódź. An introductory speech was also given by Dariusz Kluszczyński, Director National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care. The opening session was concluded by Małgorzata Wrzesień – Vice-Rector for Education of the University of Łódź.

In first part of symposium, the speakers were: Sławomir Jednoróg (Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection in Warsaw), who discussed issues related to nuclear fusion, and Jerzy Wojciech Mietelski (Institute of Nuclear Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków), who presented the results of his research on plutonium contamination in Poland and worldwide.

The second part of symposium began with lecture by Maciej Budzanowski (Institute of Nuclear Physics of Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków), who addressed the topic of Polish thermoluminescent detectors (TLDs). The next speaker was Tomasz Piotrowski (Greater Poland Cancer Centre in Poznań, president of Polish Society of Medical Physics), who introduced the Polish intraoperative radiotherapy device – Aqure. The symposium concluded with presentation by Maciej Ślot (Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics of University of Łódź) on the use of radio waves in the diagnosis of heart failure.
