Standards
In accordance with the Standarization Act of 12 September 2002 (consolidated version: Journal of Laws of 2015, item 1483) a standard is a document adopted by consensus and approved by an authorised body. It provides rules, guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results so that they can be replicated. The aim is to achieve the greatest degree of order in a given context.
Polish Standard (Polish: Polska Norma, abbreviation PN) is a national standard approved by the national standards body in Poland – the Polish Committee for Standardization (Polish abbr. PKN). A Polish Standard can be the transposition of European or International Standards, also in the lenguage of origin. The application of Polish Standards is voluntary. After they have been published in Polish, they can be evoked in legal regulations.
A harmonised standard means a standard developed by the European standards body adopted in response to a mandate granted by the European Commission with a view to apply harmonising legislation of the European Union. If the developed standard meets the requirements stipulated in the EU legislation (directives, regulations), the European Commission makes a decision to publish the harmonised standard in the Official Journal of the European Union. The application of harmonised standards is voluntary but it guarantees the presumed compliance with essential requirements laid down in the EU legal acts. The list of harmonised standards is published every six months in the announcement of the President of the Polish Committee for Standardisation in Monitor Polski (Official Law Gazette of the Republic of Poland).
National Centre for Radiation Protection in Health Care takes part in standardisation works of two technical committees of the PKN: TC 67 for Electrical Medical Equipment and TC 246 for Radiation Protection.
The list of selected standards in the area of competence of TC 67 can be found in tabs ‘General’ and ‘Medical Technique’. The list of selected standards in the area of competence of TC 246 can be found in the tab ‘Radiation Protection’.
Letter markings used with numbers of standards mean: (E) – English language version, (P) – Polish language version, (H) – standard harmonised with a given directive.
Polish Standards are available on the website of the Polish Committee for Standarization.
